The Star

Hello there!

How has your Christmas preparations been?

It's 2 more days til Christmas! Whoohoo! Some of us may be on our last minute shopping frenzy by now. I can totally relate! Lol!

In the midst of the busyness and frenzy moments, sometimes we tend to lose track of the real meaning of the season. The purpose of our celebration. The reason. During our Nativity play this year, called 'The Star of Christmas', the main message that was sent through was regarding who Christmas is about? The true star of Christmas is not the presents we find under the tree, or the tree we decorate in our homes, or the star that led the wise men to the manger nor were the angels who told the shepherds of the birth of Christ. The true star of Christmas is Jesus, the little baby who was born that night in a manger… and whose birth should be the biggest celebration for us.

During the play, we had a Christmas tree on stage and instead of putting a star on the top of the tree, a manger was put there to remind us that Jesus' birth is the Star of Christmas. :)

Manger under construction :)

It's done!

The little manger was made out of brown corrugated paper and backed with silver glitter foam, which depicts a starry night and Mary & Joseph (used a mixture of ribbon and crepe paper) looking fondly & lovingly at little baby Jesus, whose bed of hay is made from burlap.

May your Christmas be filled with moments of love, laughter and most of all..Jesus!

Merry Christmas to you!

Much love from us,
Evonne & Susan

Handprint Christmas Wreaths

Hello everyone!

I just love this time of the year when the stores have already started selling Christmas decorations, putting up their Christmas lights and Christmas carols/songs are being played.

So, what are your Christmas decoration plans for this year? Truthfully, for me, I would still love to have something handmade and not storemade hehe. A little something that represents who you are and your own style.

Today, I'm sharing with you, a DIY hand-print Christmas wreath. A simple project that you can make with your kids at home!

A couple of weeks ago, we had our Nativity Play, called the Star of Christmas. The kindergarten and Sunday School kids were part of this event. This year, we decided that the kids will also be involved with the decorations. And so, we had the kindy kids trace their hands onto coloured papers. After that, the adults helped to cut the traced hand-prints and arrange them in a wreath shape, glue them together and finally add some punched out circles which resembles red berries, and finally tie a ribbon through it.

The hand-prints came in so many different sizes..some tiny, some big, some thin and some pudgy ones. How adorable! And for this, we are reminded that we all come in different shapes and sizes, and each of us are all one of a kind, specially created by our Maker. Awesome! :)

May your day be bright & lovely!

Much love,
Evonne

Keep on hustling!

Hello everyone!

Yesterday was a public holiday for us here in Malaysia. Yay for public holidays that fall on Mondays!! Which only means a longer weekend and more time for crafting and cuddling on the couch while watching your favourite drama show! Lol!

Last weekend was a very busy one for me! Had to do the juggling act again. Soon, I can join the circus hahaha. We had the Children’s Christmas Party at Boulevard Mall which I helped out with the decorations of the stage, our new LLC product is finally ready and we had get them ready for sale (hehe!) and last in the list was the opening of the Ionad Café & Point, whereby we had to get the cafe all 'glammed' up for the opening! To divide yourself and your brain into 3 parts is no easy task and to manage your time around these 3 events is pretty challenging & tiring! I even forgotten that I promised to send home one of the youths who had helped with the Christmas Party! Thank God, it was all sorted out without any hassle. Nonetheless, it was all worth the hustle! Most of the decorations we did were DIY, which I really enjoyed making!

For the Children's Christmas Party, we decorated the stage with mainly balloons & stars! We actually ran out of balloons for the stands and we improvised by adding a huge ribbon to the  top of the stand..problem solved! Haha.

We managed to keep it simple and colourful :) We also did the hand-print wreaths and decorated it with red & gold glittered "berries"!

The next project was the Ionad Cafe! Our vision for the Ionad Cafe was to go with a rustic concept. I hoped we achieved it hehe. We're really happy especially with the high chairs by the windows that has IONAD Cafe carved on it. It's a perfect spot to have a nice quite time, sipping a hot cup of coffee and enjoy the outside view of the church :)

It was our first time making those marquee letters! Mag & I had great fun making them from scratch..used cardboard boxes, corrugated paper, and lotssss of LED lights!

Another DIY that we did were those Christmas tealight candle holders. The glass, "snow", garland and ribbons are all from Supersave (a local discount store..where you can find anything & everything..well almost haha). We assembled them together and there you have it, a cute candle holder. A perfect little deco for Christmas!

The picture frame project is also a first for us, especially with the arrangements and printing size of the quotes. It took us awhile to get the perfect arrangement and choosing the right quote for the right frame haha! It felt like trying to solve a puzzle coupled with our OCD! We would love to expand our frames in the future, adding more to the current collection and also constantly changing the inside prints of the frames. :)

It was indeed a tiring day..in fact it was a super tiring weekend! Thank God for the public holiday on Monday!! I was able to catch up on my housework & laundry (the house is a complete mess..after deserting it for the past week. Sorry house!)..and also my K-dramas! Time to unwind!

Well, that's my lot on my crafty-busy weekend. How about yours? How did you spend the long weekend? I hope it's filled with lots of creativity & fun! ;)

Much love,
Evonne

Breaking beads

Hi everyone,

I went back to my hometown a couple weeks ago for a much needed break. I just needed rest (total rest as in physical, mental & emotional rest haha). The past weeks have been hectic & oh so stressful..especially at the workplace. And before December comes, which is usually when the hectic days are back, I called myself for a retreat. It's time to rest, recover & reset. And the best place is of course, HOME!

So, during my much needed break, my mom taught me to do beadwork. She has been beading for quite sometime, well, ever since she retired 3 years ago. Her specialty is making tanggu/marik empang. Tanggu/marik empang is a traditional Iban beaded necklace worn together with the traditional costume especially during special occasions such as weddings and the Harvest Festival/Hari Gawai.

Well, to tell you the truth, I was never a 'bead person'. I was always the paper person haha. The only thing I like about beads is wearing them lol! I thought it was very tedious to make beaded necklaces. But what my mum taught me was the single thread method, which is superrr easy to learn & do. The tanggu that I made is a modern version of the traditional tanggu.

I got totally hooked for 2 days ('high on beads') and finished my first modern tanggu in a total time of 6 hours! It was so much fun..from the time of selecting & purchasing the beads with my mum, choosing the pattern of the tanggu and finally getting the tanggu done!

So, this is the finished tanggu!

It really goes well with a white top. You can see the colour pop out more. :) Thanks to my lovely cousin, Latana for being my tanggu model for the day!

I am looking forward to my next trip home during the Christmas holidays. I would love to get hooked on this again & make more tanggu!

Until then, have an awesome Friday!

Much love,
Evonne

For the Graduate!

Hello all!

I am sharing with you today, a Congratulations card that I made for a recent graduate. I decided to go with a bright & sunny theme.

And oh, I enjoyed making the tassel, even though it could be quite a hassle dealing with those strings. They can be quite stubborn sometimes...lol! Well, the tassel is worth the hassle haha! (so chessy) Anyway, here it is..mi creation!

And oh, I'm sorryyyy..it IS another gate fold card. I hope you guys are not sick yet with all the gate fold card posts from me..lol! I promise, the next post will NOT be another gate fold card post. *wide grin*

I hope you survive your Monday!

Much love,
Evonne

Lister's Gotta List

Hi there! I've listed myself as a 'lister' a couple months ago hehe! It's a monthly challenge created by The Reset Girl

Basically, you just sign yourself up at the website and you will receive an email with downloadable list prompt for everyday for the whole month. It is totally up to you how you want to write/post your lists. You can go all creative on it! It's so much fun! As for me, I've created a mini book (a traveler's notebook size) to write all my October lists inside :)

I've made the book out of scrap papers from all my cardmaking projects..hehe. Nothing goes to waste!

To see some amazing lists, search Instagram.. #listersgottalist

Enjoy!

Wedding Card - Gold & Black theme

I've been receiving quite a few wedding & anniversary card orders lately. When it comes to making wedding cards, I have the tendency to make gate fold cards. I don't know why, but the brain just goes on gate fold mode, the moment wedding card comes to mind haha!

Here's a wedding card that I made with a gold & black theme.

I have totally forgotten that I have those black & silver stickers. I dug through (literally!) my sticker collection and found these beauties and thought it's the perfect time to use them. And I paired them with gold (doesn't quite look like gold in the pictures, though) embossed paper and polka dot patterned papers.

I have also used the polka dot patterned paper for the insides as well, just to tie it with the theme. :)

Until the next post, have yourself a great Friday!

Much love,
 Evonne
